Whoa I am a Mark Knopfler super fan. I love his music, his guitar sound. and every video of Dire Straits and his solo work til this day. I had no idea that he had used Ray Kroc's words so exactly. Same thing with Money for Nothing, much of it the words of an appliance store worker he happened to overhear.
Cool, Sabrina. i just happened to find the song while websearching about Kroc. Knew of Knopfler and some Dire Straits songs, but not much, so am excited to explore more. Thanks! for the "store worker he happened to hear" info b/c i had found that song's lyrics macho chauvinistic tho otherwise liked the energy of the song. Another version of "Boom, Like That", perhaps a tad bouncier.
Yes without knowing he was quoting someone else describing musicians, the lyrics seem chauvinistic. The song he became famous for is Sultans of Swing, for the guitar of course, but I love his romantic songs as well, from Romeo and Juliet . . . Water of love, Are We in Trouble Now, You and your Friend, his work with Emmy Lou Harris and Chet Atkins (one album each) and Notting Hillbillies. Lots of soundtracks as well.
Thanks for the mentions! And of course know "Sultans of Swing". Just saw this at wikpi: " "Mark Knopfler, pictured in 2015, has declined offers to re-form the band, stating "It just got too big. If anyone can tell me one good thing about fame, I'd be very interested to hear it.""
