Kaleidoscope Moon
poem
every time i look
you look different,
you with your game face on
constant thumping
of harbor waters
patch of shore
heart in chest
yet energy connects
with the sun
bird in cage
can sing
yet what of blue sky
words got caught in her windpipe
the way the moon looks caught
in November branches
but this is all a matter of perception,
words aching
for the outside air
staying centered
allowing some time . . . . .
moon, un-caught,
sails free again
words from heart
shall sing again
into night
and bright blue skies
what prompts
such a release of notes
and emotion
is anyone’s guess
the un-thing of all this
is not trying to nail it down,
not saying “got it!”
listen for how we roll with the phases,
how the moon-tides prompt
the welling-up of
heart notes song
how the words
can free themselves
from the windpipe
like an autumn wind suddenly freeing
leaf after leaf after leaf . . . . .
from tree after tree after tree . . . . .
or doves startled from the lawn
helicoptered into air above
or how you simply
must tell someone
”i love you”
windpipe suddenly whistling
full moon sailing—
until sunrise fades the star-drenched sea
while simultaneously adding another kind of sparkling
sun into water
this is all done with bendable mirrors
and various lights
bouncing off
and on
if “i love you” is not coded with this
true light reflection
then the love will fade,
so it’s not in the words per se
or how they’re said, rather in the
heart notes song
